Canadian Dollar and Business Outlook: Loonie, crude oil rise on Monday

WINNIPEG – The Canadian dollar was getting closer to the 74 United States cent mark on Monday morning.

The loonie was at US$0.7399 or US$1=C$1.3515, up from US$0.7379 or US$1=C$1.3552 on Friday. The United States Dollar Index was down 0.04 points to 103.34.

Due to ongoing tightening supply, crude oil was on the rise. Brent crude oil was US$0.49 higher at US$85.29 per barrel. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) gained US$0.59 at US$81.84/barrel.

The TSX/S&P Composite Index advanced 38.80 points to 19,857.19.

Gold gained US$9.50 per ounce to US$1,926.00.
