Canadian Dollar and Business Outlook: Loonie drops, crude oil rallies

WINNIPEG – The Canadian dollar is declining on Thursday morning.

The loonie was at US$0.7324 or US$1=C$1.3654, down from US$0.7346 or US$1=C$1.3612 at Wednesday’s close.

The United States Dollar Index gained 0.18 of a point at 104.34.

Crude oil made gains on Thursday due to the easing of COVID-19 restrictions in China and a reduction in U.S. stockpiles. Brent crude oil increased US$0.76 to US$82.96/barrel. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) added US$0.81 at US$79.10/barrel. Western Canadian Select (WCS) gained US$0.71 to US$50.76/barrel.

The TSX/S&P Composite Index fell 161.70 points to 19,409.40.

Gold dropped US$13.60 per ounce to US$1,811.80.
