Canadian Dollar and Business Outlook: Loonie steady, crude oil higher

WINNIPEG – The Canadian dollar was mainly steady to start the week.

The loonie was at US$0.7458 or US$1=C$1.3408, up from US$0.7451 or US$1=C$1.3421 at Friday’s close. The United States Dollar Index was up 0.21 of a point at 102.23.

Crude oil was higher on Monday as the U.S. greenback weakened against other currencies and traders expect higher demand from China in the near future. Brent crude oil was up US$0.68 to US$88.31/barrel. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) increased US$0.45 at US$82.09/barrel. Western Canadian Select (WCS) gained US$0.88 to US$58.96/barrel.

The TSX/S&P Composite Index declined 14.36 points to 20,488.85.

Gold shed US$8.50 per ounce to US$1,919.70.
