Canadian Dollar and Business Outlook: Loonie up, crude oil halts losses

WINNIPEG – The Canadian dollar made gains on Thursday morning.

The loonie was at US$0.7356 or US$1=C$1.3594, up from US$0.7344 or US$1=C$1.3616 on Wednesday.

The United States Dollar Index added 0.03 of a point at 101.37. The U.S. Federal Reserve announced a 25-basis point hike to its key interest rates on Wednesday.

Crude oil is slowly gaining ground after major losses over the previous two days. Brent crude oil advanced US$0.27 to US$72.60 per barrel. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) moved up US$0.05 at US$68.65/barrel.

The TSX/S&P Composite Index gained 25.06 points to 20,379.74.

Gold added US$4.80 per ounce to US$2,041.80.
