WINNIPEG, Aug. 18 (CNS Canada) – The Canadian dollar was stronger on Thursday, climbing above the 78 US cent level as gains in crude oil provided support.
The Canadian dollar closed at US$0.7833 or US$1=C$1.2767, which compares with Wednesday’s close of US$0.7778, or US$1=C$1.2856.
The S&P/TSX Composite Index settled near unchanged on Thursday, losing only 1.92 points, or 0.01%, to close at 14,695.68.
     Canada’s agricultural sector faired as follows:
     AGT Food and Ingredients—–up  $ 0.42        at $ 37.05
     Agrium Incorporated———-dn  $ 2.19        at $116.18
     Buhler Industries————    $ 0.00        at $  4.76
     Maple Leaf Foods————-up  $ 0.78        at $ 29.66
     Potash Corp. of Sask———dn  $ 0.28        at $ 20.56
