Canadian Financial Close: C$ rises for third straight day

WINNIPEG, January 13 – The Canadian dollar recorded small
gains against its US counterpart Friday, rising for the third
consecutive session.
The loonie has gained 0.8% on the American greenback from a
weekly chart perspective.
Analysts say the loonie could be in for some weak sessions
though, in the days leading up to the next Bank of Canada
meeting on January 18.
The Canadian dollar closed at C$0.7618 or US$1=C$1.3126,
compared to Thursday’s close of C$0.7615 or US$1=C$1.3132.
The S&P/TSX Composite Index rebounded on Friday, taking
advantage of higher bond values and US bank earnings.
Gains in natural gas and copper contributed to the bullish
tone.
The index rose 79.12 points or 0.51% to 15,497.28.
Canada’s agricultural sector performed as follows:

AGT Food and Ingredients—–dn $ 0.06 at $ 36.73
Agrium Incorporated———-dn $ 0.14 at $138.35
Buhler Industries————– $ 0.00 at $ 4.80
Maple Leaf Foods————-up $ 0.29 at $ 27.73
Potash Corp. of Sask———dn $ 0.04 at $ 24.84
