Canadian Financial Close: C$ steady

WINNIPEG, July 20 (MarketsFarm) – The Canadian dollar held steady on Thursday, lacking any clear direction.

The Canadian dollar settled at US$0.7592 or US$1=C$1.3171 on Thursday, which compares with Wednesday’s close of US$0.7593 or US$1=C$1.3170.

The number of Canadians receiving employment benefits increased by 2.5 per cent in May to hit 399,000, according to a report from Statistics Canada. That marked the first increase since July 2022. The country’s unemployment rate increased by 0.2 percentage points to 5.2 per cent.

West Texas Intermediate was up by 0.37 per cent at US$75.63 per barrel.

The TSX Composite Index was weaker, losing 54.30 points or 0.26 per cent to close at 20,436.87 points.
