Canadian Financial Close: Loonie higher, crude oil mixed

Glacier FarmMedia – The Canadian dollar ended Tuesday with its highest close in 11 days.

     The loonie closed at US$0.7383 or US$1=C$1.3544, compared to US$0.7366 or US$1=C$1.3576 on Monday.

     The United States Dollar Index was relatively steady, down 0.02 of a point at 96.80.

     Crude oil prices were mixed as the market awaited fresh news regarding talks between Iran and the U.S., as well as Russia and Ukraine.

     West Texas Intermediate declined US$0.11 per barrel at US$64.25. Brent crude oil added US$0.05/barrel at US$69.09.

     The TSX/S&P Composite Index rose 233.51 points to close at 33,256.83.

     Gold shed US$29.90 per ounce at US$5,049.50.
