Winnipeg, September 3 – The Canadian dollar was slightly lower
against its US counterpart at midday Tuesday, undermined by a lack of
trading activity due to no scheduled economic data releases from the US
or Canada, industry watchers said.
However, gains seen in commodities, including gold, crude oil and
copper, limited the loonie’s losses.
At 11:33 CDT Tuesday, the Canadian dollar was trading at US$0.9491
or US$1.0536, which compares with Friday’s North American close of
US$0.9497, or US$=$1.0530.
Traders are also looking ahead to Wednesday’s Bank of Canada
policy rate announcement. The BOC is expected to keep the overnight
rate steady, analysts said.
At 11:33 CDT Tuesday, the Toronto Stock Exchange was up 85.41
points to sit at 12,739.31.
