A nationwide print and online resource for farmers seeking equipment will join the Farm Business Communications ag publishing house.

DirectWest, the phone book publishing arm of Saskatchewan’s Crown-owned phone company SaskTel, announced Thursday it will sell iDeal Publishing Solutions of Ottawa to Farm Business Communications.

iDeal publishes seven provincial editions of AgDealer (Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Quebec, Atlantic Canada and eastern and western Ontario) and is the online operator of AgDealer.com, Idealequipment.ca and Agricoleideal.com.

FBC said it plans to retain the existing AgDealer publications and brands.

AgDealer’s employees and contract sales staff will continue to operate in Ottawa under the iDeal name.

The buyer is best known in the Canadian ag industry as the publisher of Country Guide, Canadian Cattlemen, Grainews, the provincial farm newspapers Alberta Farmer and the Manitoba Co-operator, their affiliated websites, portal site AGCanada.com and a new series of BlackBerry-compatible mobile apps.

FBC has been a subsidiary of Vancouver publishing firm Glacier Media since 2003.
