A southeastern Saskatchewan crop input dealership half-owned by Cargill will now be fully owned by the grain handler and agrifood firm.

Tri-Way Fertilizer’s crop input business at Balcarres, about 100 km northeast of Regina, has been sold separately to Cargill, which already operates a wholly-owned grain elevator on the same lot as the Tri-Way shop.

Tri-Way will continue to operate its separate anhydrous ammonia and custom application business “until another buyer is found,” Cargill said in a release Tuesday.

The company said the deal “is aligned with Cargill’s commitment to invest in and manage a customer-driven network of farm service centers across Western Canada” and also noted the “convenience” of its elevator on the same property.

“With this acquisition, the Balcarres location will continue to service all of our customers’ farm needs including: grain handling and marketing solutions, agronomy services and crop input solutions,” Glenn Houser, Cargill AgHorizons’ farm service group manager, said in Tuesday’s release.

The Balcarres staff will also “help tap Cargill’s considerable expertise in providing advice and solutions tailored to producer customers’ unique needs,” Houser said.
