The Canadian Pork Council (CPC) and the Canadian Meat Council (CMC) say they are pleased that the Government of Chile has decided to reject demands for safeguard measures on imports of frozen pork.
ASPROCER, the Chilean producer association, had requested an import surcharge of 14.3 per cent on imported frozen pork.
In a release, CPC and CMC said Chile has become an important growing market for Canada, which is the second largest foreign supplier of frozen pork in that market. From January to August 2013, Canadian exports reached more than 7,500 tonnes valued at over $17 million.
