Two manufacturers of generic off-patent farm chemicals have come forward with their own versions of Group 1 herbicides Puma 120 Super and Horizon.
Nufarm Agriculture’s Canadian arm on Tuesday announced the release of its Group 1 fenoxaprop herbicide Cordon for control of wild oats, green foxtail, yellow foxtail and barnyard grass in spring wheat, durum wheat and barley.
Cordon, which carries the same active ingredient as Bayer CropScience’s Puma 120 Super, can also be tank mixed with a “wide range” of broadleaf weed killers for one-pass control, Calgary-based Nufarm said.

MANA Canada, the Calgary-based Canadian arm of the world’s largest off-patent chemical company, on Monday announced it had picked up registration for Ladder, a Group 1 clodinafop-propargyl product.
“There are two manufacturers of the clodinafop active in Canada, MANA and Syngenta,” MANA Canada’s commercial business manager Dale Kushner said in a release. “That means Ladder is the only true competitor to Syngenta and the private label clodinafop products in the marketplace.”
“Ideal” for grassy weed control in spring wheat and durum, the product is tank-mixable with nearly 30 broadleaf herbicides and “gives growers great value,” the company said.
Ladder, whose active ingredient is the same as in Syngenta’s Horizon brands, will not be sold in Canada until Jan. 1, 2010, “due to patent restrictions,” MANA said.
