The federal and New Brunswick governments will put up over $500,000 for a new custom-designed roof for the Albert County Exhibition.
The project at the facility, in the Riverside-Albert area south of Moncton, will include a roof to cover the entire show ring, plus covered bleachers, an office and an announcer’s booth.
“The Albert County Exhibition has a long and successful history, and we want to make sure it continues to play a vital role for the surrounding communities,” provincial Natural Resources Minister Wally Stiles said in a release.

The federal government will put up the bulk of the funding, $402,000, through the Community Adjustment Fund (CAF), delivered in New Brunswick by the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).
The province, meanwhile, will chip in $126,500 through its Regional Development Corporation, while the Albert Agricultural Society No. 133 provides $18,887.
The new roof over the ring “will provide a facility for us and other groups to hold events which will not be dependent on the weather,” Terry Steeves, president of the Albert Agricultural Society, said in the government’s release.
Projects funded through Atlantic Canada’s $100.4 million share of the federal government’s $1 billion, two-year CAF must be completed by March 31, 2011 “with no obligation for continued spending.”
For “non-commercial” projects such as this one, the CAF can fund up to 80 per cent of eligible costs.
