Off-patent chemical maker Nufarm has rolled out a new Group 2 herbicide for use in tandem with its glyphosate product in cereal crop burndowns.

The Calgary arm of the Australian ag chem firm on Thursday launched Spike-Up, a Group 2 tribenuron herbicide with the same active ingredient found in DuPont’s Express brand weed killers.

Nufarm recommends the use of spike-up with its glyphosate product, Credit. The two combined offer “superior burndown of key weeds such as narrowleaved hawk’s beard, dandelion, kochia and volunteer canola,” the company said.

Used as a pre-seed product, Spike-Up “may also provide extended control into the growing season,” Nufarm said Thursday.

The new product will be offered for sale by either the 40-acre case or the 900-acre tote, and will be sold “free of grower rebates” as per the company’s pledge against rebate and bundling programs.
