Dow AgroSciences’ fruit and vegetable insecticide Delegate WG has picked up registration for control of European corn borer and Colorado potato beetle in potato crops.
“Since the time Delegate was registered in 2007, other horticultural growers in a wide array of crops have been harvesting the benefits of the technology and now we can add potato growers to the list,” Dow Agro horticulture portfolio manager Jerry Olechowski said in a release Thursday.
Delegate, a Group 5 spinetoram insecticide formulated as a wettable granule, has “limited toxicity” to beneficial predator insects such as lacewings and ladybird beetles.
The product, which acts on contact as well as ingestion, is non-toxic to bees when the spray residue is dry for three hours, the company added.
Spinetoram “combines the desirable environmental profile of a biological product with the efficacy of synthetic technologies,” the company said.
That means Delegate offers higher control on targeted pests, but its toxicity in natural enemies of potato pests is low, Dow Agro said.
