The interim dean of the Ontario Agriculture College at Guelph will become the University of Saskatchewan’s new dean for its college of agriculture and bioresources starting July 1, 2009.
Dr. Mary Buhr will take over the position for a five-year term, replacing Dr. Graham Scoles, who will continue as interim dean for the U of S ag college until June 30 next year.
Buhr has a bachelor’s and master’s degree and Ph.D. in biology, all from the University of Waterloo (1976, 1978 and 1982 respectively).
After university, Buhr worked as a visiting scientist with Agriculture Canada in Brandon, Man., before taking a position in 1983 with the department of animal science at the University of Manitoba. In 1988, she moved to the department of animal and poultry science at the Ontario Agricultural College of the University of Guelph as an assistant professor, and reached full professor status in 2000.

Buhr became associate dean (academic) at OAC in 2002 and now serves as interim dean, having replaced Craig Pearson in February 2007.
Pearson, OAC’s dean since 2001, withdrew his name from consideration for a second term as OAC’s dean in 2007 when he was seconded to the University of Guelph’s executive offices for a two-year term, to focus on building academic programs and partnerships with China.
