U.S. livestock: Cattle, hogs make gains

Chicago cattle futures closed with small gains on Monday after Friday’s fall. Lean hog futures were also up.

Most-active October live cattle closed at 226.10 cents a pound, up 0.125 cents. December live cattle settled at 228.475 cents per pound for a gain of 0.550 cents.

Most-traded September feeder futures gained 0.225 cents to settle at 340.600 cents a pound. October feeder cattle closed at 339.675 cents per pound, up 0.450 cents.

Choice boxed beef was valued at $381.52 per cwt on Monday afternoon, up $2.68 per cwt. Select boxed beef sat at $359.61 per cwt, up $4.52.

Most-active October lean hog contracts closed at 91.775 cents a pound, up 1.100 cents. December lean hogs settled at 84.225 cents per pound for a gain of 0.450 cents.

Pork carcass cutout value ended the afternoon at $119.09 per cwt, up $1.69.
