Chicago lean hog contracts were down on Thursday, while cattle were mixed.
Most active April live cattle futures settled at 202.050 cents a pound, up 0.650 cents. June live cattle closed at 198.275 cents, down 0.400 cents per pound.
Most active April feeder cattle lost 0.750 cents to settle at 279.975 cents a pound. May feeders closed at 281.525 cents a pound, down 0.350 cents.
Choice boxed beef lost $1.41 per cwt to end the day at $319.69, the USDA reported. Select boxed beef settled at $307.47 per cwt, down six cents.
Most active June lean hog contracts settled at 96.200 cents a pound for a loss of 2.500 cents. July lean hogs closed at 97.275 cents, down 2.350 cents a pound.
The USDA’s FOB plant pork cutout ended the day at $97.29 per cwt, up $2.71.
Export sales data from the USDA calendar low for pork sales during the week ending March 6, noted analyst Austin Schoeder. Of the 20,262 tonnes sold, Mexico was the largest buyer at 6,300 tonnes.
