Feed Grains: Ukraine’s corn shipments to China on the rise

WINNIPEG, Mar. 11 (CNS Canada) – Following are a few
highlights in the Canadian and world feed grains markets on
Friday, March 11.

– CBOT corn futures were up on Friday, with the May contract advancing by two cents to US$3.6500 per bushel. The market was supported by advances in the Brazilian currency, which is trading at a six-month high relative to the US dollar, and trader short-covering.

– Brazil’s national supplier CONAB sold just over 130,000 tonnes of corn in an auction Wednesday. The corn was originally from the Mato Grosso region.

– Brazil’s corn exports were up by 388% in February, compared to 2015, according to government data.

– Farmers in France have planted roughly a third of the country’s expected spring barley crop, according to a report.

– Ukraine’s Minister of Agricultural Policy and Food said in his blog that the country surpassed the US in 2015 as the largest exporter of corn to China.

– Algeria held a tender for feed barley and ended up purchasing 125,000 tonnes from France and another country, according to Algerian state company OAIC.

– Feed barley bids in the key cattle feeding area of Lethbridge, Alberta were in the C$205 to C$212 per tonne range as of March 4, which was down by roughly five dollars compared to the previous week, according to provincial reports. Feed wheat prices were in the C$225 to C$235 range, which were unchanged.
