Winnipeg, January 4 – Prices for Eston number one lentils
were keeping firm at 61 to 68 cents per pound, according to
information from Prairie Ag Hotwire. Bids for Richlea number one
lentils were also steady at 51 to 60 cents per pound.
Farmers have sold over half the pea crop since the start of
the marketing year, according to Saskatchewan Pulse Growers.
That means at least 300,000 tonnes have been sent to domestic
processors and feed markets while a total of 2.2 million tonnes

countries bought over 90 percent of the crop, led by China and
India.
India expects to grow 22.3 million tonnes of pulses in the
coming year, according to government data. Imports of pulses to
the country are generally expected to be between 3 to 3.5
million tonnes.
Pulse farmers in the Victoria region of Southeast Australia
are inspecting their crops for damage following rainfall that
measured between 7 mm to 35 mm, according to The Weekly Times.
The rains have the ability to swell the seed kernel of lentils,
which could make them wrinkled and darker in color. Discounts of
up to AU$50 per tonne have been recorded when downgrading like
that occurs.
