Global Markets: Canadian retail sales drop 10 per cent in March

– Canadian retail sales fell by a record 10 per cent in March, according to the latest Statistics Canada data. The March data was the first to account for COVID-19 social distancing measures, and analysts expect to see further declines in April.

– A passenger plane carrying nearly 100 people crashed in a residential area of Karachi, Pakistan, the country’s aviation agency confirmed Friday. The Airbus A320 was en route from Lahore to Karachi. Many are feared dead or wounded.

– Researchers at the University of Oxford are set to begin the second phase of trials on a COVID-19 vaccine. More than 10,000 people, including children and seniors, will be part of the study. Early trials on monkeys have already shown some success.
