Global Markets: Canadian wholesale sales grow 0.4%

  • Canadian wholesale sales grew 0.4 per cent in July to hit C$82.7 billion, according to a report from Statistics Canada. There were increases in four of the seven subsectors, led by the agriculture supplies industry.

 

  • North Korea’s state media provided rare images of a secretive uranium enrichment facility on Friday. During his visit, leader Kim Jong Un reportedly called for increased production of weapons grade nuclear materials. North Korea is believed to have several such sites—all of which are banned under United Nations Security Council measures.

 

  • Russia expelled six British diplomats on Friday, accusing them of spying and sabotage. The expulsions were announced hours before British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and United States President Joe Biden were set to talk in Washington, where increased support for the Ukraine was expected to be discussed.
