WINNIPEG, June 21 (MarketsFarm) – The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

  • Comments from United States President Joe Biden referring to Chinese President Xi Jinping as a ‘dictator’ heighted tensions between the two countries once again, mere days after U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with Xi in an attempt to help stabilize relations. Chinese officials said Biden’s comments, that were made in reference to the incident with a suspected Chinese spy balloon in U.S. air space earlier this year, were “extremely absurd,” and “irresponsible.”

  • Underwater noises were reportedly detected in the early search efforts to find the missing submersible carrying five people to visit the wreckage of the Titanic. The craft lost contact with its support vessel on Sunday and is believed to have enough oxygen to last until Thursday.

  • June 21 marks National Indigenous Peoples Day in Canada with ceremonies scheduled across the country to celebrate the cultures of the First Nations, Inuit and Metis communities.
