– Electronic devices used by members of Hezbollah in Lebanon exploded for the second straight day on Wednesday as security experts believes the supply chain for the devices was likely compromised. At least 20 people were killed and more than 450 were injured when walkie-talkies and solar equipment were remotely detonated. On Tuesday, at least 12 were killed and 2,800 injured when pagers exploded. Israel has neither confirmed nor denied their involvement in the attacks, but it is widely believed intelligence officials in the country were responsible.

– Bloc Quebecois leader Yves-Francois Blanchet said his party will vote against a non-confidence motion to be tabled by the Conservatives next week in the House of Commons, avoiding a snap election. Blanchet told media that “Conservative values are not Quebec values.” The Conservatives are currently leading the Liberals in the polls by a wide margin and are looking to trigger what they call a “carbon tax election” in the midst of widespread criticism of the governing party.
– The Canadian Climate Institute, in its annual emissions report released on Thursday, said Canada’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions declined by 0.8 per cent in 2023 to a total of 702 megatonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent. Emissions have declined 7.8 per cent from 2005 to 2023, with those from electricity down by 62 per cent. However, those from the oil and gas sector increased by 12.1 per cent.
