  • Hamas has confirmed that its leader, Yahya Sinwar, was killed in southern Gaza in a recent Israeli attack. Analysts were unsure if Sinwar’s death would hasten the end of the year-long war in Gaza. Hamas maintained that it will not release hostages still being held until there is a ceasefire, and Israeli troops withdraw from the Palestinian enclave.

  • North Korea has sent troops to fight in Russia’s war against Ukraine, according to South Korea’s spy agency. The North Korean soldiers have reportedly been given Russian military uniforms and equipment. If confirmed, the troop dispatch would be North Korea’s first involvement in a foreign war.

 

  • The United States Justice Department has filed charges against a former Indian intelligence officer on allegations he directed a foiled plot to murder a Sikh separatist leader, and American citizen, in New York City last year. The charges of “murder-for-hire and money laundering” against Vikash Yadav, a former officer in India’s Research and Analysis Wing, were filed in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York.
