CBS, NBC puts VP four, five points ahead

  • United States Vice-President Kamala Harris is said to be five points ahead in the polls versus former  President Donald Trump, according to an NBC News poll released on Sunday. A CBS poll put Democrat nominee Harris four points above Republican nominee Trump, who stated on Sunday he won’t run for re-election again should he lose the presidency on Nov. 5.

  • Bank of Canada Governor Tiff Macklem is set to participate in a fireside chat on Tuesday at the Institute of International Finance and the Canadian Bankers Association Canada Forum in Toronto. Macklem will be speaking about economic growth during times of uncertainty. Also speaking at the conference will be former federal cabinet ministers John Manley and Brian Tobin.

 

  • About 33,000 Boeing employees in the United States set up picket lines on Friday after they voted 95 per cent against a tentative deal. Although the agreement would have added money to their 401(k)retirement savings plans, the members of the International Association of Machinists said they are demanding their pension plan be reinstated after losing it 10 years ago.

 

  • Charlene Hudy, the chair of the Air Canada section of the Air Line Pilots Association stated on Friday that she will resign should Air Canada pilots vote against a tentative deal struck with the company. Air Canada has offered a 42 per cent wage hike over four years, however a significant pay gap will still exist between newer and veteran pilots, a major sore point with the section’s 5,400 members.
