WINNIPEG, Oct. 1 (MarketsFarm) – The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

– Months-long protests in Hong Kong intensified on Tuesday as a pro-democracy protestor was shot in the chest with a live round by a police officer. The escalation came on the day China was also celebrating its 70th anniversary of communist rule. The teenage protestor is reportedly in critical condition in hospital.

– Meanwhile, China showed off a new hypersonic ballistic nuclear missile at an anniversary parade in Beijing’s Tiananmen Square. The DF-17 is reportedly capable of evading most anti-missile defence systems currently in place due to its speed, maneuverability and ability to fly at lower altitudes.

– Canada’s gross domestic product held steady in July, according to a report from Statistics Canada, as a decline in goods-producing industries was offset by an increase in services-producing industries.
