Glacier FarmMedia MarketsFarm – The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

  • Israel launched a “limited” ground incursion into Lebanon Tuesday, marking a significant escalation of the conflict between Israeli forces and Hezbollah militants. The raids follow airstrikes over the past week, including one that killed Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. Meanwhile, Iran is said to be preparing a ballistic missile attack on Israel in retaliation.

  • Fires in Brazil’s Amazon rainforest region were at their highest level in more than a decade in September, as a prolonged drought caused the fires to burn more intensely, according to government data. Satellites detected 41,463 fire hot spots in Brazil’s Amazon in September, the largest number for that month since 2010.

  • Workers at six grain terminals in the Port of Vancouver reached a tentative deal over the weekend, ending a strike potentially impacting exports from the world’s top canola and number three wheat exporter during the harvesting period.
