Global Markets: Israeli airstrikes on Beirut continue

An Israeli airstrike on Beirut targeting a Hezbollah commander killed six people, with Lebanese authorities reporting that more than 500 people were dead from the strikes over the past few days. While thousands of civilians fled the area, Israel’s military said attacks would accelerate. Hezbollah said it would also continue to attack Israeli targets.

The United Nations General Assembly is underway in New York Tuesday, with a speech from United States President Joe Biden on the agenda. Biden’s address is likely to be his last speech to world leaders as president amid the ongoing wars in Ukraine and the Middle East.

World stock markets were climbing higher Tuesday after China announced new stimulus measures to support its economic development. The measures include lower borrowing costs and increased funding injections to the economy.
