Global Markets: Israeli attacks on Lebanon/Gaza continue

  • The latest Israeli airstrikes across Lebanon killed at least 21 people, according to reports. One airstrike on a town in southern Lebanon left six people dead, including the town’s mayor, according to reports. Lebanon’s interim prime minister Najib Mikati denounced Israel as “intentionally targeting” a municipal council meeting that had been discussing relief efforts. Israel claimed it was targeting Hezbollah militants. Meanwhile, ongoing Israeli attacks in Gaza killed 65 people over the past day.

 

  • Canadian manufacturing sales decreased by 1.3 per cent in August, hitting their lowest level since January 2022 at C$69.4 billion, according to a report from Statistics Canada.

 

  • Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented a plan for victory against Russia to the Ukrainian parliament on Wednesday. Key points in the plan include requests for weapons and an “unconditional invitation” to join NATO.
