- Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Kamala Harris held a televised debate Tuesday evening just two months away from the Nov. 5 election. Former President Trump, and current Vice President Harris are running neck-and-neck in the polls. Opinions were divided along party lines after the debate, although independent observers noted that Harris, a former prosecutor, generally controlled the debate while keeping Trump on the defensive.

- Mexico’s Senate passed controversial reforms to the country’s judicial system overnight after a marathon session that saw protesters briefly suspend the proceedings after breaking into the upper house in an attempt to block the vote. Outgoing President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has championed the proposal that will see Mexico become the first country in the world allowing voters to elect judges at all levels, including the Supreme Court.
- Thousands of people were evacuated from Hanoi, Vietnam, as river waters rose to 20-year highs after Typhoon Yagi hit the country over the past weekend. At least 179 people have been confirmed dead, with many still missing as flooding caused heavy damage.
