- Russian President Vladimir Putin reportedly met with United States’ special envoy Steve Witkoff in Moscow on Wednesday, as a Friday deadline imposed by President Donald Trump for Russia to reach a peace deal with Ukraine neared. Details of the meeting were not immediately available.
- Air Canada flight attendants voted in 99.7 per cent in favour of a strike mandate after failing to reach a deal with the airline after contract talks over the past year. The earliest possible strike date is Aug. 16, but Air Canada maintained it was committed to the bargaining process and still expected to reach an agreement.
- Wheat futures in the U.S. were trading at their lowest levels in five years Wednesday morning, as ample global supplies and improving weather conditions in several key growing regions weighed on values.
- Corn was also at contract lows. Soybeans were firm, with the strength there contributing to a correction higher in canola.
