Global Markets: USDA to release supply/demand estimates

– The United States Department of Agriculture will release its June supply/demand estimates later today. Trade estimates show that ending stocks for both old and new crop U.S. corn are expected to be trimmed, while soybeans and wheat should see their carryouts increase for both old and new crop. New crop world ending stocks for corn and soybeans would be up while those for wheat would be down.

– Media reports on Wednesday said talks between Canada and the U.S. on a potential economic and security deal have intensified over the past few weeks ahead of this weekend’s G7 summit in Kananaskis, Alta., according to media reports. A Canadian government source said documents are going back and forth between the two sides, but described the talks as “a normal negotiation”. Other sources warned that there is no timeline for the deal as finalization would depend on a signoff from U.S. President Donald Trump.

– The Canadian Drought Monitor released its latest update on June 10, showing 72 per cent of agricultural lands on the Prairies were affected by abnormally dry or drought conditions at the end of May, up from 41 per cent a month earlier. An area of extreme drought has emerged north and east of Saskatoon as precipitation failed to exceed 10 millimetres during May in central Saskatchewan. However, there were areas in the three Prairie provinces that received above-normal precipitation.
