Medicine Hat Feeding Co. has won the Auction Market of the Year Award, which is given out by the Canadian Angus Association.

Medicine Hat Feeding Co. was formed in 1952 by the Taylor and Thompson families. Regular off-truck sales are held every Wednesday along with pre-sort sales in the spring and fall. Every fall, weekly Canadian Angus feeder sales are held promoting Red and Black Angus calves and Canadian Angus tags. Area purebred breeders endorse the sales which sell 30,000 to 35,000 calves every year.

In addition to the livestock auction, the Medicine Hat company operates a livestock supply store with feed, fencing and grooming supplies and employs 25 people.

The Auction Market of the Year Award was introduced in 2006 to recognize and honour those auction markets that work hard to promote Angus cattle. However, it was not presented in 2020 or 2021 because of the pandemic.

The Canadian Angus Association is Canada’s largest purebred beef breed organization with 2,500 members across the country.
