The 2011 Information Catalogue has been released by Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development’s information management division.
The catalogue lists over 600 free and priced books, DVD videos and CD-ROMs that are distributed through the department’s publications office. These materials provide up-to- date information on a wide range of agricultural subjects.
“We’ve got products on just about every subject you can think of,” says Ken Blackley, information officer, information management division, Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development, Edmonton. “They cover topics ranging from agri-tourism to crop and livestock production, to new ventures, and much more!”

Alberta crop diversification centres receive funding
The Government of Alberta has pumped $5.2 million of provincial funding into crop diversity research centres in Edmonton and Brooks.
As well as listing materials available from the department’s publications office, the catalogue lists web-based materials. “These listings are for decision-making tools, such as the Alberta Farm Fertilizer Information and Recommendation Manager (AFFIRM) and the Barley Silage Calculator, as well as for maps and online videos,” says Blackley. “We’ve greatly expanded the list of web-based materials in this year’s catalogue.”
This year is the first time that the free and priced sections of the catalogue have been merged into a single section. “By including the priced material together with the free, we’ve made it that much easier to find exactly what you want.”
Contact information
The catalogue also has a section containing agricultural contact information. “It includes contact details for the Ag-Info Centre, Alberta Agriculture’s hub offices, all the agricultural field-men through their agricultural service boards, and even lists stations and times for Alberta Agriculture’s “Call of the Land” radio program,” says Blackley.
In addition to the catalogue, there is a newsletter available that lists new additions to the collection.
Another way to stay informed about new and revised informational materials is by subscribing to “RTW This Week” at www.agriculture.alberta.ca/enews.
“In addition, many of the free publications listed in the catalogue may be viewed online at Alberta Agriculture’s website at www.agriculture.alberta.ca/publications,” adds Blackley.
