Pulse Report: Alberta pulse levy may drop

Winnipeg, Dec. 12 (CNS) – The Alberta Pulse Growers are
considering lowering their checkoff from one per cent to 0.75
per cent at next month’s annual general meeting. If approved by
members, the service fee would be levied on sales of pulses as
of Aug. 1. The one per cent fee has been in place since 2003,
but an increasing number of pulse acres have led to an increase

Russia has set new pea export records for 2017, according
to a report on UkrAgroConsult. Russian exporters supplied a
record 183 kilo metric tonnes of peas to foreign markets in
October. Turkey has remained the top importer of Russian peas.
However Bangladesh increased its imports, importing 40 per cent
more Russian peas from July to October this year.
Despite an overall decrease in shipments from Gladstone
Port in Queensland, Australia, there has been an increase in
chickpea shipments, according to The Observer. There were 75,697
million tonnes of chickpeas shipped out of the port in November,
compared to 59,608 million tonnes last year. So far this year
there has been 170,403 million tonnes of chickpeas shipped out.
