Winnipeg, October 16 (CNS) – The Alberta town of Oyen,
about 200 kilometres north of Medicine Hat, is set to break
ground this month on the first phase of a new transportation
hub. The first phase of the project is focused on upgrading
existing train tracks, construction of new train tracks and
preparation of the site. The park’s first tenant is a drilling
sand distribution terminal, but there is potential for a lentil
plant to be built there.

higher than average production of lentils and chickpeas for
2017/18 in the country. However national crop production overall
will be down almost 30 per cent from the 2016/17 record harvest.
Some lentil and chickpea prices are down in Western Canada
for this week while pinto bean prices increased, according to
the Prairie Ag Hotwire. The LairdX3 lentil fell two cents in
price over the last week to 30 cents per pound, while Kalbuli –
8 millimetre chickpeas fell three cents to 61 cents per pound.
Pinto beans rose one and a half cents in price over the past
week to 28.5 cents per pound.
