WINNIPEG, June 22 (CNS Canada) – A Reuters survey of 16 traders and analysts suggests prairie farmers may have seeded an average of 4 million acres to peas this spring. That compares to 3.989 million acres estimated by Statistics Canada in April.
The trade survey places the average lentil estimate at 4.4 million acres, compared to 4.385 in the April StatsCan numbers and soybeans at 7 million acres, compared to 6.9556 in the earlier StatsCan report. The survey was conducted as the trade prepares for the StatsCan planting report on June 29.
Beans from Kenya have been given a boost upon news that checks carried out on exports to the European Union will become less onerous, according to reports in Kenyan news reports.
The Fresh Produce Exporters Association of Kenya said the EU has cut scrutiny on Kenyan beans to five percent from the current 10 percent level.
The EU imposed the 10 percent check on beans from Kenya with pods in 2012, after discovering what it said were excessive pesticide residue, according to the Kenya Star.
