WINNIPEG, June 21 (CNS Canada) – India’s pulse production has reached new highs for 2016-17, according to the Saskatchewan Pulse Growers’ Pulse Market Report. India has produced 22.4 million tonnes, which has caused export prices to fall. At the same time, India has imported record amounts of pulses at 6.4 million tonnes, breaking the old record of 5.9 million tonnes.
India’s minimum support prices continued to remain out of the public realm, despite being set by the country’s cabinet June 7.
The Indian government cites debt relief needs, rising input costs and farmer protests as reasons for the delay.
