Aug. 1 (CNS Canada) – The latest Manitoba crop report issued July 31 reports that peas in the southwest part of the province have started to turn and some top pods are ripening prematurely due to the hot weather. Overall though, the crop in the region is rated in good or excellent condition.
In the northwest, peas are reported to be podding, while lentils flowering and podding.
In the central region, edible beans are reported to be flowering with pods starting to form. Development stages range from R3 to R4

United States crop conditions for edible beans as reported by the U.S. Department of Agriculture on Aug 1 are as follows for the top five-producing states:
– Minnesota: 85 per cent rated good to excellent with 47 per cent at pod-setting stage
– North Dakota: 50 per cent rated good to excellent, 23 per cent rated poor to very poor. About 50 per cent are setting pods.
– Nebraska: 75 per cent of beans are blooming, according to USDA. Crop condition is rated at 64 per cent good to excellent, with 18 per cent rated poor to very poor.
– Michigan: 45 per cent of edible beans are rated in good to excellent condition, while 33 per cent of the crop is rated poor to very poor. About 55 per cent of edible beans are blooming
Idaho: Crops is rated 47 per cent good to excellent, and 53 per cent fair to poor.
Government officials in India may soon lift a long-standing ban on pulse exports. India is considering the strategy in attempts to deal with a glut of lentils and pigeon peas and low prices at home.
