Pulses: Areas in Australia see excess moisture, hurting chickpeas

Winnipeg, October 21 – Following are a few highlights in the Canadian and world pulse markets on October 21.

– Due to excess moisture near Queensland, Australia, the region’s chickpea crop is feeling disease and mould pressure, reports out of the country say. Producers may see lower yields.

– The United States Department of Agriculture and Washington State Department of Agriculture will be distributing US$4.3 million worth of grants for projects related to specialty crops, including lentils.

– Western Canadian spot prices yellow and green peas range from C$6.00 to C$8.00 a bushel, Prairie Ag Hotwire said on Friday.

– Western Canadian spot prices for #1 Laird lentils are between 50 and 57 Canadian cents per pound, according to data from Prairie Ag Hotwire on Friday.
