Pulses: AUS chickpea farmers wait for rain

Winnipeg, May 1 – Farmers in Queensland (eastern Australia)
are growing anxious for spring rains to help this year’s
chickpea crop to establish. The month of April was mostly dry
according to a report in Queensland Country Life. Analysts note
the months of May, June and July are typically drier than April
which is why the need for some rain is becoming critical.

other pulses are being developed in a bid to boost pulse
plantings throughout the country. According to a report on
Dawn.com, acreage in Pakistan has fallen to 1.15 million
hectares compared to 1.25 hectares four years before that.
Bids for crimson X3 lentils rose by three and a half cents
over the past week, according to the latest information from the
Prairie Ag Hotwire. Prices are now listed in a range of 19 to
26.5 cents per pound.
Yellow peas jumped by 29 cents last week to C$7.50-$9.29
per pound.
Prices for light kidney beans climbed one cent last week to
a range of 54 to 63 cents per pound.
