Winnipeg, February 29 – Following are a few highlights in the Canadian and world pulse markets on Monday, February 29.

– The Indian government says it has sold about 1.16 million tonnes of pulses that were recently seized from traders suspected of hoarding supplies. Just under 15,000 raids were carried out in 14 states and union territories, according to a report in hindubusinesslive.com.

– Analysts say India should look at adjusting the minimum support prices it currently pays for pulses to ensure farmer don’t reduce acreage, according to Indiatimes.com.

– The Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences is forecasting a slight rise in the export volumes of chickpeas in the country for 2016/17. But while the amount of exports is expected to be up, the price is predicted to fall lower. As a result, ABARES pegged export value at $544 million, down from $878 million for 2015/16.

– Crimson lentils (#1 variety) are drawing prices of 43-45 cents per pound across Western Canada, according to Prairie Ag Hotwire.
