Winnipeg, February 19 – Following are a few highlights in the Canadian and world pulse markets on Friday, February 19.
– India’s Department of Agriculture and Cooperation estimates total production of pulses 2015/16 at 18.32 million tonnes. That is up 7% from last year.
– A slowdown in demand from local millers coupled with some long liquation helped push down prices for chickpeas in India by 2%, according to a report in commodityonline.com.
– The Indian government may bump up the size of a fund used to stabilize food prices due to soaring inflation. According to a report at livemint.com, the fund may increase to 9 billion rupees from a previous cost of 5 million rupees in an effort to stabilize prices.
– The Australian government is turning to satellites to map certain crops in the country. Dr. James Underwood told abc.net.au the satellite captures 2D and 3D images along with thermal readings and hyperspectral scans.
