Pulses: Blight becoming concern for Manitoba kidney beans

Winnipeg, July 10 – Manitoba dry beans have entered the late vegetative stage, according to the latest report from Manitoba Pulse. Flowering is set to begin any day now. Bacterial blight is showing up in a few fields though, which is especially worrisome for kidney beans. Meantime field peas are flowering and growers are advised to look out for aphids.

Pea shipments from France were slower in May, according to data from Terres Univia. Exports were down 13 percent compared to the month before, and down 52 percent from a year ago.

Eston X3 lentil prices are down eight cents, according to the latest information from the Prairie Ag Hotwire. Bids are now listed at 22 to 26 cents per pound.

Kabuli chickpeas (10mm) are holding steady at 69 to 70 cents per pound.

Yellow peas on the Prairies are locked in a range of C$8.00 to C$8.75 per bushel.

Navy beans in Manitoba fell one cent during the past week, bids are now listed at 35 cents a pound.
