Winnipeg, Oct. 17 (CNS Canada) – Following are a few highlights in the Canadian and world pulse markets on Monday, October 17.
– Canada exported 23,500 tonnes of peas and 5,900 tonnes of lentils during the week ended October 9, according to the latest Canadian Grain Commission report. Exports were down from the previous week.
– Cool and wet conditions have put a halt to harvest operations across much of Western Canada, but the most of the pulses are already off the fields. Only two per cent of the peas in Alberta and five per cent of the lentils in Saskatchewan were still in the field, according to the latest provincial reports. However, chickpeas are still waiting for drier conditions, with only 25 per cent of the Saskatchewan crop harvested as of the latest report.

– Number 2 Laird lentils are currently topping out at about 52 cents per pound in Western Canada, according to Prairie Ag Hotwire data. Red lentils are bid at up to 31.5 cents per pound.
– Green pea prices range from C$6.80 to as high as C$7.75 per bushel in Western Canada. Yellow peas range from C$6.00 to C$7.50 per bushel.
– Large calibre (10mm) kabuli chickpeas are currently seeing prices top out at 53 cents per pound in Western Canada.
