Winnipeg, Dec. 19 (CNS Canada) – Canada exported 16,000 tonnes of peas and 33,200 tonnes of lentils during the week ended December 11, according to the latest Canadian Grain Commission statistics. Exports of both pulse crops are running ahead of the year ago level.
Farmers have already delivered 2.22 million tonnes of peas into the commercial pipeline, according to CGC data. That’s well ahead of the 1.51 million tonnes delivered by the same point the previous year.
In other pulse news, Ukraine has exported 253,000 tonnes of peas during the first five months of the 2016/17 marketing year, which was up by nearly five per cent from the previous year, according to a report from UkrAgroConsult. India was the largest customer for the peas, followed by Pakistan.

Number 2 Laird lentils are currently topping out at about 64 cents per pound in Western Canada, while red lentils are bid up to 32.5 cents per pound, according to Prairie Ag Hotwire data.
Green pea prices range from C$8.00 to as high as C$9.50 per bushel in Western Canada. Yellow peas range from C$7.65 to C$9.00 per bushel.
Large calibre (10mm) kabuli chickpeas are currently seeing prices top out at 70 cents per pound in Western Canada, according to Prairie Ag Hotwire data. Those are the highest prices of the crop-year-to-date and up by five cents from Thursday.
