Pulses: Canadian lentil exports off to slow start

Winnipeg, Nov. 9 (CNS Canada) – Canadian lentil exports are off to a slower start this year, due to weather delays getting off the crop, according to a report from StatPub citing Statistics Canada data.

In other pulse news, the USDA was recently in the market buying US$3.6 million worth of canned beans for distribution through domestic food programs.

From a pricing standpoint, number 2 Laird lentils are currently topping out at about 57 cents per pound in Western Canada, according to Prairie Ag Hotwire data. Prices are unchanged on the week, but up from a month ago. Red lentils are bid at up to 35 cents per pound.

Green pea prices range from C$7.50 to as high as C$8.50 per bushel in Western Canada. Yellow peas range from C$6.85 to C$8.00 per bushel.

Large calibre (10mm) kabuli chickpeas are currently seeing prices top out at 53 cents per pound in Western Canada.
