Pulses: Canadian pea exports running strong

Winnipeg, Nov. 21 (CNS Canada) – Canadian pea exports continue at an active pace, with 82,100 tonnes moved offshore during the week ended November 13, according to the latest Canadian Grain Commission data.

Total pea exports during the crop-year-to-date, of 1.5 million tonnes, compare with 1.1 million tonnes at the same point a year ago.

Lentil exports are right in line with the year-ago pace, with 378,400 tonnes exported to date.

Number 2 Laird lentils are currently topping out at about 60 cents per pound in Western Canada, while red lentils are bid up to 36 cents per pound.

Green pea prices range from C$7.50 to as high as C$9.00 per bushel in Western Canada. Yellow peas range from C$6.85 to C$8.50 per bushel.

Large calibre (10mm) kabuli chickpeas are currently seeing prices top out at 53 cents per pound in Western Canada.
